A student and family's privacy is very important. All information shared with a school counselor will remain confidential unless....

1. Someone is hurting you.

2. You want to hurt someone.

3. You want to hurt yourself.

4. You give the counselor permission to share with a trusted adult.

In these situations, we are required by law to report this information to parents and/or to appropriate agencies.

Counselors may share information with teachers/staff on a need to know basis with student or parent permission.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow, Don't let absences add up!! Attendance is very important for our students' academic and social achievements. Failure to attend school, or provide valid excuses, can result in truancy court referrals for our families. Please remember to send in excuses for the absences.

“When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.”

Mental Health

Hello 8th graders & families.

I hope you are all doing well, and taking good care of yourself through these challenging times. Please remember to drink lots of water, take time for physical activities each day, practice social distancing, while taking advantage of Facetime and Google Hangouts, as a way of maintaining face to face via technology. It is important that we continue having conversations with friends, and family, and not limit ourselves to texting and emails. And finally, please do not overwhelm yourselves by watching too much television, especially the news..

As instructed by your teachers, you can continue to use the "Counselor Request" form under Student Resources on the Bailey Webpage and I will call you from 812-470-2309 . I would love to help you set up Google Hangouts, with your friends, while we are away from school. If you are interested, please let me know. I miss you all, and especially lunch duty on Tuesday and Wednesdays when I got to see your smiling faces.  Stay safe!

Ms. Watzlavik

My Career Shines

High School Registration will be held at Bailey on Monday, February 10, 2020.  Registration cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, and should be returned on Friday. Please be certain your child selects electives. If not, High Schools will select your child's elective, and they will not change it once it's on the schedule.  HS Registration 2020

Entering high school is an exciting time for our 8th graders at Bailey Middle School. As your student enters high school, remember that high school grades make up your student's GPA and GPA's help students earn scholarships, get into colleges/universities or trade schools.

Please encourage your student to click on the My Career Shines link above where they can set up an account or for many, access the account they have already created. Once an account is set up, your student has access for life. Career interest assessments, investigating and applying for scholarships, and colleges are just a sample of what is available. Students can also create resumes, log community service hours, design their own profession web-page, and much, much more! If you haven't looked at what is available, I encourage you to do so with your student. Helping our children connect school with career opportunities can make a huge impact on school performance.

If you have any questions, or are interested in a tutorial for My Career Shines, please call or e-mail me and I will be happy to set up a student/parent after school class.
